Voltage Optimisation FAQs

We understand that voltage optimisation isn’t an everyday term, so there are bound to be plenty of questions that need answering.

That’s why we’ve put together an in-depth voltage optimisation FAQ page. They’re designed to answer any questions you may have about voltage optimisation both on a commercial and domestic level.

If there’s something you still can’t find after reading through our answers, please contact us and we will be happy to help answer your query.

What is voltage optimisation?

Voltage optimisation is the process of stabilising and reducing the incoming voltage to a site from around 242V to the European standard of 220V.

What are the cost benefits of voltage optimisation?

By reducing the incoming voltage supply, voltage optimisation is designed to save you money on your energy bills. The level of savings you achieve will depend on your circumstances and needs (whether you’re an individual, or a business, for example, and how much electricity your equipment consumes).

Commercial voltage optimisation savings

Domestic voltage optimisation savings

Your electrical equipment will work exactly as it did before the voltage reduction but will be less expensive to run.

What are the environmental benefits of voltage optimisation?

Because you’ll be lowering your consumption of electricity, and becoming more energy efficient in the process, you’ll be reducing your carbon footprint.

So, not only will you be saving money for yourself/your business, but you’ll be doing your bit to help protect the environment.

What are the general advantages of voltage optimisation?

Aside from the obvious cost and environmental benefits, there are several other great advantages of voltage optimisation:

  • Increased efficiency of lighting and equipment
  • Lower kWh usage as a result of operating at the right voltage
  • Reduced maintenance costs as a result of reduced stresses on lighting/equipment
  • Less need for air conditioning as a result of reduced heat-waste emissions from lighting
  • Improved power factor on the optimized circuits

There really aren’t any downsides to voltage optimisation from Apollo Enviro.

Can voltage optimisation help to protect my electrical equipment?

The reduction in voltage means less stress is being placed on your electrical equipment, which will help to prolong its lifetime and reduce maintenance costs in the long-term.

How much does voltage optimisation cost?

The cost of voltage optimisation will depend on the size of the unit required and the complexity of the installation. You’ll see return on your investment, on average, within 2 years or less making Apollo Enviro’s voltage optimisation on of the most cost-effective on the market.

What if something goes wrong?

All of our products are tested and approved before being fitted on your premises, so in the unlikely event of something going wrong, get in touch with us as soon as possible and we will do all we can to rectify the problem.

For added peace of mind, all of our products are backed with a 2-year limited warranty.

What are the typical savings for the LEC (lighting energy controller)?

If the main consumer of energy within your business is lighting, you could save up to 35% on your annual bills by installing Apollo Enviro’s LEC. Visit our lighting energy controller page for more information.

How much could I save?

Through our experience, we recommend that you could save up to 18% through voltage optimisation on commercial premises. That said, it depends on how much electricity your business consumes so your savings could work out greater than 18%. Talk to us today to find out how much you could save.

If I increase my energy consumption, will I need to change my voltage optimiser?

If you are planning to increase your business electrical consumption, get in touch with us and we can advise on the best course of action to take regarding your voltage optimiser. It may be a case of changing the settings on your current unit, but if a different unit is required, we can arrange for delivery and installation.

Is there any financial support available to help cover the cost of installing voltage optimisation units?

Yes. The Carbon Trust-backed Energy Efficiency Finance scheme provides loans with competitive interest rates which can be used to cover the cost of a voltage optimisation unit.

You can find out more about funding assessment for the Energy Efficiency Finance scheme here.

All the energy savings are approved by the Carbon Trust, so you can rest assured that the energy savings we predict are accurate and reliable.

Do Apollo Enviro offer an installation service?

Not only will we perform a site audit for you and advise on the best possible solution for your business, but we can arrange and complete the installation of the required energy efficiency equipment on your site.

How long will it take to install the optimiser(s) on my site?

This really depends on the task at hand. As a general guide, however, we aim to complete all preparation work before we turn power off to your business, then we will install the optimiser(s) as required. The whole process shouldn’t take any longer than a few hours.

Will the installation require any downtime on my site?

While we aim to complete installation work in the shortest timeframe possible, we want to make sure it is done correctly. This will lead to a short period of downtime on your site. However, all preparation work will be completed before power is turned off to reduce the amount of time your business is without power.

To ensure your business can continue to work uninterrupted through its day-to-day tasks, Apollo Enviro can arrange for out-of-hours installation; which is something many of our clients value and commend us for.

If you’re interested in installing voltage optimisation equipment on your site, contact us today and we can advise you on the best way forward and arrange a site visit at a time convenient to you.

What are the maintenance and service costs of the voltage optimisers?

We strive to provide the best possible service; one that we see as unbeatable. As such, our voltage optimisers are backed with a 2-year limited warranty; giving you peace of mind that you are covered against costs during this period in case anything was to go wrong.

Domestic Voltage Optimisation FAQs

(Click drop down arrow to expand text.)

How much could I save on my energy bills?

As a homeowner, you can expect to save anywhere between 8-15% on your annual electricity bill. As with other types of voltage optimisation, this depends on individual circumstances. It’s not just money you’ll be saving though you’ll be reducing your carbon consumption too.

I don’t run a business, can I still have a voltage optimiser in my house?

Yes. Apollo Enviro offer domestic voltage optimisation units to UK households. Find out more about domestic voltage optimisation here.

How does Apollo Enviro’s voltage optimiser differ from others available on the market?

Apollo Enviro’s domestic voltage optimisers are rated at 60A continuous, 100A peak which means they’re capable of optimising your entire domestic electricity supply. This might not mean much in terms of information, but the potential savings it could offer compared to other units on the market will soon add up.

That’s because other units on the market often carry a lower Amp (A) rating so you’ll be missing out on potential savings.
